V tomto pokračování filmu THIN MAN se manželé Nick a Nora Charlesovi (William Powell a Myrna Loy) vrací z New Yorku do San Francisca. Po návratu jsou Nořinými příbuznými pozváni na večeři. Charles, manžel Nořiny sestřenice Selmy, se už několik dní neobjevil a proto rodina poprosí Nicka o jeho detektivní služby. Hned další den je ale Charles zavražděn. Nick se společně s policií chopí komplikovaného případu a je jasné, že další vražda na sebe nenechá dlouho čekat.
