Keď Amber Freyová stretne Scotta Petersona, myslí si, že konečne našla pravú lásku. Je šarmantný, elegantný, ohľaduplný, taktný a tvrdí, že sa chce usadiť. Práve kvôli jeho dokonalosti jej niečo na ňom nesedí a tak využije ponuku priateľa – vyšetrovateľa, aby ho preveril. Jedno ráno Amber v televíznych správach uvidí Scotta, ktorý hovorí o jeho stratenej tehotnej žene so synom. Pochopí, že jej intuícia ju nesklamala a že jej Scott skutočne po celý čas klamal. Zavolá na políciu, objasní im situáciu týkajúcu sa ich nedávneho vzťahu a ponúkne im svoju pomoc. Polícia ju požiada, aby nahrala na záznam jej rozhovory so Scottom a zistila nejaké okolnosti, ktoré by im dopomohli k vyriešeniu prípadu. A tak sa do toho pustí…
