Na bezejmenný ostrov přilétá vědecká expedice – již druhá, neboť po té první se před několika týdny slehla zem. Ostrov se nalézá v oblasti, poblíž které probíhaly testy atomové bomby a vědci mají za úkol zjistit, jaké následky to zanechalo na místní fauně. Hned po příletu tragicky zahyne jeden člen výpravy a další záhadná úmrtí na sebe nenechají dlouho čekat. Název filmu jasně vypovídá o tom, kdo za vším stojí. Otázkou zůstává, zda se druhé expedici podaří s nezvyklým nepřítelem vypořádat, nebo zda dopadne jako expedice první.
