Sedmnáctiletá Casey Powellová je plachá nejistá dospívající dívka. Její rodiče, Frank a Joanne, věnují všechnu svou pozornost Gail, její devatenáctileté sestře, která právě zjistila, že je těhotná s někým, kdo ale o manželství a rodinu nemá zájem. Frank je naštvaný, Joanne se zajímá jen o Gail a tak nějak zapomenou trávit čas s Casey. Mají totiž za to, že je to ctnostná dívka, která nedělá žádné problémy. Casey se cítí ignorovaná, chce vypadat jako ty krásné dívky z časopisů a tak začne držet dietu a cvičit…
