V roce 2003 byl kanadský režisér Peter Rowe svědkem demonstrace před čínským konzulátem ve Vancouveru. Příznivci meditační praxe Falun Gong zde protestovali proti pronásledování, které čínský režim proti Falun Gongu vede od roku 1999. Skutečnostmi, které se na místě dozvěděl, byl Rowe doslova zasažen.Inspirován příběhy lidí protestujících před ambasádou nakonec napsal, produkoval a řídil natáčení dokumentárního filmu, který příznačně nazval Za rudou zdí (Beyond the Red Wall). Film byl dokončen po třech letech a poprvé zveřejněn v roce 2007. Je kompilátem filmové metráže ze světa a vnitrozemské Číny a mapuje události několika posledních let.Dokumentární záběry doprovázejí komentáře státníků, novinářů, učitelů a příznivců duchovní praxe Falun Gong. Film také ve zkratce zobrazuje snahy Falun Gongu a zastánců lidských práv o zastavení této devět let dlouhé perzekuce, kterou vyprovokoval bývalý čínský president Tiang Zemin.
