Don Cesare (Vittorio De Sica) právě bájí o dobách, kdy byl velkým bossem v chicagském podsvětí, když se na pohřbu jednoho Cesarova dřívějšího druha ocitnou čtyři nezvaní smuteční hosté. Don se již dávno odklidil ze Států a užívá si italského klidu. Z oněch čtyřech pánů se vyklubou únosci, kteří chtějí jeho peněžence pustit žilou. Don Cesare na tom však není finančně zrovna nejlépe, a proto jim navrhne, že by se mohli pustit do velkého podniku, z nějž by profitovaly peněženky všech…
