Urozený pán Richard Fordyce se vrací na své panství po boku své novomanželky. Děje se zde však něco velmi neblahého. Dozví se totiž o fámách, které o něm kolují. Měl se tajně vrátit již dříve a spáchat v okolí několik vražd. Ale ani po jeho nynějším příjezdu nepolevuje nebezpečný vrah ve své agresi. Jeho zlověstné oči se blýskají po okolí a jeho kroky jsou slyšet všude po zámku. Každá nadcházející noc je čím dál nesnesitelnější.
