Říká se, že existují světy, dosud lidstvu neznámé. Hluboko pod hladinou moře stojí prastaré město, střežené podivnými bytostmi a ovládané několika nesmrtelnými.Náš příběh začíná na pláži, kam moře vyplavilo mrtvé tělo právníka Penrose. Dobrodruh Ben Harris se ihned vydává informovat o této nešťastné události Američanku Jill, která si právníka najala. Něco se mu však v domě stojícím na útesu nad mořem nezdá. Vypadá to, že hlubiny nejen dávají, ale také berou, když je půvabná Jill v noci unesena mořskou nestvůrou. Ben se společně s roztržitým umělcem Haroldem okamžitě pouští po jejich stopách. Tajná chodba spojující dům s podzemím zavádí oba muže až do království Kapitána, nestárnoucího vládce podmořské říše.
