Courage rozhodne nerobí svojmu menu česť, keďže je to asi ten najbojazlivejší pes pod slnkom. Žije uprostred ničoho v dome spolu so svojou paňou Muriel a jej manželom Eustaceom, ktorí ho našli na ulici ešte ako šteniatko a zobrali si ho domov. Hoci by sa mohlo zdať, že sa tam nikdy nič nedeje, opak je pravdou. Neustále ich napádajú rôzne príšery alebo ich postihujú čudné katastrofy. Courage preto musí často prekonať svoj strach a zachrániť Muriel a Eustacea. Ten ho ani napriek tomu nemá rád a považuje ho iba za hlúpeho psa, ktorým však Courage rozhodne nie je.
