Film vypráví o muži, egocentrickém miliardáři a vynálezci, který se snaží obnovit svůj život poté, co ztratil všechno – svou kariéru, bohatství a rodinu. Příčinou toho je nehoda, při níž jeden z jeho produktů vážně poškodí několik desítek nevinných spotřebitelů. Za tuto nehodu je odsouzen na osm let vězení. Chce-li si po propuštění z vězení opět proklestit cestu do společnosti, musí očistit své jméno a získat svou rodinu. Hysterický nový manžel vynálezcovy exmanželky mu pomůže dostat se zpět do hry tím, že mu zajistí práci. Pomalu, ale jistě se dostává zpátky na vlastní nohy.
