Životopisný film o konštruktérovi slávneho lietadla "Spitfire". Hlavný hrdina R.J. Mitchell (L. Howard) bojuje proti chorobe a všetky síly využíva k stavbe lietadla ktoré zachránilo Britániu od invázie a porážky v lete 1940 a pomohlo vyhrať bitku o Britániu. Príbeh je vyrozprávaný skúšobným pilotom (D. Niven), ktorý ho rozpráva v prestávke medzi vzdušnými útokmi pilotom svojej jednotky. Vo filme sú pozoruhodné a v súčasnosti už unikátne zábery na lietadlá tej doby, ktoré režisér L. Howard šikovne zakomponoval do filmu, a ktoré sa zachovali len vďaka tomuto filmu. Veľký úspech mal aj v USA, kde sa premietal pod názvom Spitfire.
