Počas zimy roku 1942 sa boje Druhej svetovej vojny na východnom fronte ustálili. Ani jedna z bojujúcich strán nedokáže prelomiť protivníkovu obranu. Proti sebe ale nestoja len obyčajné vojská Sovietov a nacistov. V oddieloch SS sa nachádza špeciálna okultistická jednotka Ahnenerbe, ktorá je zameraná na paranormálne javy. Pomocou nej chcú nacisti privolať na bojisko baróna von Wolffa a tým zvrátiť priaznivý výsledok bojov na svoju stranu. Proti tomuto 700 rokov starému démonovi, prezývanému aj „Anjel Smrti“, stojí jednotka Šiestej divízie. Z nej najlepší ruský agent je 14 ročné dievča so špeciálnymi schopnosťami Naďa, ktorá sa musí vydať pre pomoc až do záhrobia. Na stranu Sovietov sa pokúsi povolať svojich dávno mŕtvych kamarátov z Prvého oddielu (FIRST SQUAD), ktorí sú jediní schopní postaviť sa proti duchovi von Wolffa a jeho rytierom.
