Dr. Martin Ploeck (Orlando Bloom) je mladý, ale lehce frustrovaný muž toužící po špetce respektu. Důležitý zvrat ve svém životě najde až u osmnáctileté pacientky Diane (Danielle Riley Keough) trpící infekcí ledvin. K Martinově smůle se dívka lečí poměrně rychle, a tak ze strachu, že ji ztratí, manipuluje s její léčbou, aby zůstala v nemocnici po jeho boku. Vše jde podle plánu do té doby, než Martina začne někdo vydírat.
