Martin Frost je významný spisovatel, který po dokončení posledního románu přijíždí do prázdného domu na venkově, aby si tam odpočinul a našel inspiraci pro další psaní. Jednoho rána se ale probudí a vedle něho v posteli leží neznámá žena, která se představí jako Claire Martinová a tvrdí, že je neteř majitelky domu. Martin souhlasí, aby v domě zůstala, ačkoli chtěl být sám, časem se do Claire zamiluje a pustí se znovu do psaní. Jsou šťastní až do okamžiku, kdy zazvoní telefon a Martin zjistí, že majitelka domu žádnou neteř nemá…
