Poslední velké vystoupení Johna Lennona (poté se objevil na pódiu už pouze s Eltonem Johnem v roce 1974) proběhlo v newyorské Madison Square Garden 30. srpna 1972. Doprovází ho tradičně proměnlivá sestava, kterou pro koncert pojmenoval Plastic Ono Elephants Memory Band, v níž nenajdeme slavná jména, spíš hudebníky, se kterými si Lennon rozuměl, jediným známějším hráčem je bubeník Jim Keltner. Na pódiu zaznělo 14 skladeb, mezi nimi klasický rock'n'roll dvojice Leiber/Stoller "Hound Dog", jediná skladba z repertoáru Beatles "Come Together", skandály opředený "Cold Turkey" či proslavené "Give Peace a Chance". Kromě dalších osvědčených hitů tvořilo náplň koncertu několik písní z alba SOME TIME IN NEW YORK CITY. Záznam koncertu vyšel 24. ledna 1986 pod režisérskou taktovkou Carol Dysinger a Steve Gebhardta. Výtěžek koncertu byl věnován mentálně handicapovaným newyorským dětem.
