Po autonehodě, kterou zavinil uznávaný, leč ekcentrický oční chirurg Dr. Chaney přijde jeho dcera Katherine o zrak. Doktor se s tím nechce smířit a je odhodlán své dceři zrak opět navrátit. Jeho práce se však stává urputnou posedlostí. Na transplantaci očí použije doktor prozatím nedobrovolně snoubence Katheriny. Zrak se podaří dceři vrátit, ale ne na dlouho. Doktor Chaney se však nechce vzdát a jeho marné pokusy a operace se množí a pokračují. Množí se ovšem také oběti jeho experimentů v žaláři pod jeho sídlem. A slepí a bláznivý vězni touží po útěku…
