Lynn Shafferová, manželka a matka, sa dopustí zločinu a odsúdia ju na desať rokov väzenia. Vzápätí zistí, že ženská väznica je kruté peklo. Väzenskí dozorcovia sa k ženám správajú ako k handrám, nútia ich k sexu a prostitúcii. Lynn sa spočiatku pokúsi protestovať, ale umlčí ju krutý dozorca, seržant Crang. Lynn sa však nevzdá a s pomocou manžela a svojho právnika dostane za múry väznice informácie o porušovaní ľudských práv, sexuálnom násilí a zneužívaní.
