Osamelej matke štyroch detí sa v poslednom období veľmi nedarí. Po tom, ako dostane výpoveď zo zamestnania, sa rozhodne dokončiť si vysokú školu. Na štúdium však potrebuje 5 000 dolárov. Finančný problém jej chcú pomôcť vyriešiť jej deti účasťou v súťaži spevu, na ktorú ich pripravuje "Flash" Kendrick Bragg, bývalá rapová hviezda. Súťaž vyhrajú a on sa stane ich ochrancom i kamarátom…
