V zájmu zamezení vyvražďování slonů ve střední Africe se obrací idealistický ochránce přírody Morel (Trevor Howard) s peticí na francouzskou koloniální správu. Guvernér však jeho aktivity přijme s výsměchem. Z mírumilovného samotáře se tak stane takřka fanatický bojovník, který se začíná dopouštět i násilností… Podle románu Romaina Garyho.
