Ve druhém příběhu z džungle čeká Lexe Barkera coby Tarzana setkání hned s několika domorodými kmeny. Záhadné zmizení nagaské ženy přiměje Tarzana a Jane k pátrání, při němž je Jane unesena. Nagasané s Tarzanem se pokouší únosce dohonit, ale marně. Zjistí alespoň, že nevítaní vetřelci patří k Lioniňanům, záhadnému vzdálenému kmenu uctívajícímu neobvyklá božstva. Tento národ, postižený silně nakažlivou chorobou, unáší v džungli ženy ve snaze zabránit svému vymření. Tarzan vyhledá ve vesnici doktora Campbella, jehož sérum může domorodce uzdravit. Výpravu teď čeká náročná cesta, vedoucí mimo jiné přes území nepřátelských Wadisů, válečníků dokonale maskovaných v keřích, kteří po svých protivnících foukačkami střílí otrávené šipky.
