Vánoční večírek firmy sídlící ve čtyřicátém patře mrakodrapu je v plném proudu. Několik manažerů a sekretářek se rozhodne, že si udělají soukromou oslavu v kancelářích vyššího managementu, kde je překvapí přítomnost viceprezidenta. Všichni mají ovšem něco za lubem. Sekretářka Darlene viceprezidenta nepokrytě svádí a jeden z manažerů by se rád dostal ke svým pracovním posudkům. Mezitím neschopný údržbář nešťastnou náhodou založí požár ve dvanáctém patře. Hasiči marně bojují s živlem a nikdo neví, že nahoře jsou lidé, kteří si postupně začínají uvědomovat, že něco není v pořádku. V nebezpečné situaci se začínají povahy jednotlivých osob rychle vybarvovat.
