Film, jemuž za námět posloužil román Johna W. Campbella, Jr. Tým vědců, podnikající výzkum v izolovaném táboře postaveném hluboko v Antarktidě objeví vesmírnou loď, uvězněnou v ledu. Blízko lodi leží zmrzlé tělo mimozemské bytosti. Všichni jsou přesvědčeni, že jde o objev tisíciletí a vezmou tělo do tábora, aby ho mohli prozkoumat. Mimozemšťan ale není mrtvý – je jen zmrzlý, a teplo ho přivede zpátky k životu, a v táboře začne náhle umírat jeden člen týmu po druhém…
