Muž se v noci nevrátí domů a přesto, že to neudělal poprvé, jeho dceři Carol se na tom něco nezdá a vydá se ho se svým přítelem hledat. Brzy objeví vrak otcova auta a poblíž vchod do jeskyně. Pár se vydá do jeskyně otce hledat a narazí na gigantického pavouka. Podaří se jim utéct a vše nahlásí místnímu šerifovi, který se vydá pavouka pomoci DDT zneškodnit. Omráčeného pavouka vezmou na univerzitu v domnění, že je mtvý. Ten se probouzí a vydává se drancovat město a vrátit do své jeskyně, kde je naneštěstí Carol, která se tam vydala se svým přítelem hledat náhrdelník po otci.
