Malý Ahmad vzal ve škole omylem sešit svého spolužáka Mohameda. Musí mu jej vrátit a zabránit tak problémům s přísným učitelem. Bohužel ale neví, kde v sousední vesnici Mohamed bydlí a navíc ho jeho matka nechce pustit ven. Když je poslán pro chléb, vycítí Ahmed svoji šanci a vydá se Mohameda hledat.Stejně jako v Bílém balónku (ke kterému napsal Abbas Kiarostami scénář), i zde sledujeme svět dospělých pohledem malého dítěte.
