Dva američtí homosexuálové se v dobré víře rozhodnou zveřejnit svoje svatební oznámení v místních novinách pensylvánského městečka, odkud pocházejí. Oznámení přitáhne nečekaně masivní vlnu kritiky a odporu od tamních obyvatel, ale zároveň také přijde dopis od zoufalé ženy, jejíž syn je v místní škole za přihlížení učitelů šikanován kvůli své sexuální orientaci. Novomanželé se rozhodnou do rodného městečka vrátit s kamerou a odhodláním situaci změnit. Začnou odhalovat sítě vztahů a motivací, které je dovedou ke zjištění, že počáteční odpor konzervativní obce k jejich oznámení není náhodný ani tak spontánní, jak se zdálo. Dokument se stal tváří celoamerické kampaně proti homofobii.
