Dorothy Hunter (Miriam Hopkins), najbohatšia žena na svete, by chcela byť milovaná kvôli sebe samotnej a nie len pre svoje peniaze. Preto ukrýva svoju identitu a na verejnosti si mení miesto so svojou sekretárkou (Fay Wray). Stretáva Anthonyho Traversa (Joel McCrea), ktorý podľa jeho slov v lásku neverí, ale napriek tomu by mu nerobilo problém vziať si bohatú ženu. Preto začne dvoriť nepravej Dorothy. Všetko sa skomplikuje, keď sa skutočne zamiluje do Dorothy, mysliac si, že ide iba o sekretárku.
