Jake (Jason Behr) je profesionální tatér. V Singapuru se dozvídá o samojském tetování pomocí nástroje zvaného hahau. Ten si od samojských tatérů vypůjčí a nechtěně se s ním bodne do ruky. Když se pak vrací na Nový Zéland, sám netuší, že každým novým tetováním, které udělá, vypustí ven ducha zemřelého, který se chce za svou smrt pomstít.
