V jiném čase, ve vzdálené zemi… Mnoho generací po jaderné válce čelí zbytek civilizovaného světa nové tyranii. Despota Prossor (Donald Pleasence) realizuje své zvrácené představy o světovém řádu pomocí těžce ozbrojené milice zvané Omega. Zastánci tolerantních myšlenek hnutí „Nová cesta“, vyhnáni do pustiny mezi barbarské tlupy, se připravují k odvetě, ale Prossor jim zasadí těžkou ránu zajetím jejich vůdce McWayna (Harrison Muller Sr.). Když se zdá vše ztraceno, vynoří se z oblaků prachu vyvolený hrdina…
