Oscarový režisér Oliver Stone sa vo svojom dokumente zameral na to, čo sa deje na politickej scéne v Južnej Amerike a aké ma celý tento proces dopady na sociálnu sféru krajín, ktoré odmietajú ekonomický diktát USA. Režisér sa postupne stretáva s charizmatickými juhoamerickými lídrami, medzi ktorými nechýbajú venezuelský prezident Hugo Chávez, brazílsky prezident Lula da Silva či kubánsky líder a brat Fidela Catra, Raúl. Stone sa snaží zistiť, aká vlna sa na juhoamerickom kontinente šíri, prečo sú noví lídri zatracovaní americkými médiami a prečo administratíva prezidenta Georga W. Busha bojuje všetkými prostriedkami za zachovanie svojho vplyvu v krajinách na juh od hraníc Spojených štátov.
