Yorkshire roku 1974. Strach, nedůvěra a korupce uvnitř policie se vymknula kontrole. Mladý novinář Eddie Dunford (Andrew Garfield) je odhodlán k hledání pravdy ve stále složitějším bludišti lží a podvodů kolem policejního vyšetřování série únosů dětí.Když se ztratí mladá Clare Kemplay, Eddie a jeho kolega, Barry (Anthony Flanagan), přesvědčí svého šéfa, aby je nechal vyšetřit spojení s dvěma podobnými únosy v posledním desetiletí. Jakmile je však nalezeno zohavené tělo na staveništi, které patří místnímu realitnímu magnátovi, Eddie a Barry jsou vtaženi do smrtícího světa tajemství, zastrašování, šokujících odhalení a policejní brutality.
