OSN je po několika neúspěšných pokusech proniknout s lidmi řízeným satelitem hlouběji do vesmíru varována neznámou silou, aby se o to již dále nepokoušela. Ambiciózní vědci se však rozhodnou v projektu pokračovat. Mimozemšťané se proto infiltrují mezi posádku satelitu s cílem zastavit projekt jednou provždy. Roger Corman se s tímto filmem snažil maximálně využít zájmu veřejnosti o družice, který nastartovalo vypuštění Sputniku Sověty v roce 1957. Prý tenkrát prohlásil, že dokáže do 60ti dnů dostat do kin film, který bude mít slovo satelit v názvu.
